Guardian Angel
Ben didn't hesitate, didn't even think. He just acted slamming into the kid and knocking them aside a split second before the speeding truck hit and then...
Nothing, no wail of sirens, no fear or pain just a profound sense of peace and comfort.
When he opened his eyes again it was to the sight of most beautiful woman he'd ever seen leaning over him.
"Fear not Ben," she said in a soft musical voice "your times of tribulation are ended. Welcome, welcome to your reward."
Her smile lit up the already sunlit room as she unfolded great eagel's wings from her back.
"You, you're and Angle!" He squeaked starring at the vision of devine beauty "So, is this heaven?"
"Oh no sweetie," she said with a laugh like warm honey "This is California, we won't be taking you to the Silver City for many many years yet."
"I'm alive? But that truck, my body..." he trailed off as a barrage of new sensations penetrated his shellshocked brain. Without him consciously willing it his hands moved to his chest grabbing a double handful of warm soft flesh.
"Holy shit!" He squealed " I have tits!"
The angel's exquisite features briefly creased with a disapproving frown but there was no heat in her voice as she responded.
"Well of course," she told him caressing his stubble free cheek soothing his fear away "You're a girl sweetie, isn't it wonderful?"
"No, no, no, I'm a man!" Ben protested "Aren't I...?"
Suddenly Ben was not so sure. Thinking back on his life, his old life, something had never quite fitted for her. She'd felt wrong, like her skin wasn't really hers. But that was normal, right? Everyone felt like that. That was life, you took that itchy sick off centre feeling, pushed to the back of your mind and got on with things. It didn't mean she was a girl! At least that's what she'd always thought but here she was feeling up her own boobs and thinking about herself with female pronouns like it was completely natural.
"I... I am a girl" she admitted the truth to herself at last "I think maybe I always was? But how? Why?"
"We're sorry," the angel said sadly "even heaven isn't always perfect. Sometimes things go wrong, souls end up in the wrong places and there's nothing we can do. But this time thanks to what you did, saving that child, we were able to set things right. I've brought you to where you belong. Given you the life you should have always had."
Ben, no that wasn't right she suddenly knew, her name was Bailey. Bailey tried to sit up,to ask more questions but the angel stopped her with a tender kiss.
"Shh, no more questions now." She said "Rest, remember your new life. You won't see me again but no matter what comes I'll be here. Your guardian angel watching over you."
Is she any relation to George Bailey?
