Unaffected
When the Reality Wave passed through his school Professor Jones could only watch in horror as it transformed students, parents, and faculty seemingly at random.
Men became women.
Girls became boys.
Veteran educators regressed until they looked no older than their students while students instantly aged twenty years or more.
Prehaps more disturbing than the physical changes were the mental alterations some victims suffered.
Quite hardworking students became shallow and sex obsessed. Dressing like sex workers and shamelessly offering themselves to anyone they encountered.
Outgoing athletes became overweight nerds suddenly fascinated with obscure board games.
Most disturbingly many victims seemed to forget their old lives entirely. Insisting they'd been unaffected by the wave and that their new forms were how they had always been.
All these were just the changes Professor Jones had personally witnessed. Over the following days, he heard stories of even more dramatic alternations. He was almost sure most of those were just tall tales. Surely the cheer squad couldn't have all grown fully functional male genitalia? And was it really likely the principal had impregnated herself after splitting into male and female versions of themselves?
There was even a rumour about a male member of staff that had transformed into a beautiful young woman but seemed unable to recognise the fact. It seemed this unfortunate man stubbornly insisted he was unchanged even as he minced around the school in high heels and lingerie, completely oblivious to the lewd and provocative acts he unconsciously performed.
Professor Jones found that last one hard to credit, surely he would have noticed such odd behaviour?
Now that things had returned to a semblance of normality the only oddity he'd been aware of was how much more attentive his male students had become and he certainly wasn't going to complain about that. In fact, he would have to think of a way to reward them for their improved grades.
Could you use this Reality Wave concept more? I like how you managed to describe multiple changes but focused on one person, and it would be interesting to see others that are oblivious.
